How do I  apply for the SPDTC Summer Clerk Program?

This year all interested first and second year law students interested in volunteering in a public defender office in the South are asked to apply to the Summer Law Clerk Program. There are number of offices participating in this program.  All applications should be submitted by March 1, 2011.  For more information on how to apply, please click here: SPDTC Internship Application Guidelines.

How can I become a member of the SPDTC Class of 2011?

We are a program designed for new public defenders. Anyone who is has been a public defender for less than 3 years, and who works in a public defender office in the southeastern United States, or who will join a public defender office in the region prior to the end of the calendar year in which they seek to join the SPDTC, is welcome to apply. 

To apply to become a member of the Class of 2011, you must submit a completed application by June 13, 2011. Click here to fill out the 2011 Application for Participants. If you have any questions about the application, please contact Ilham Askia, SPDTC Program Director.

All applicants must have the approval of their office head and be available to participate in the 2010 Summer Institute which will be held at the Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, AL from July 30th through August 13th.  Full participation in the Summer Institute is a prerequisite to joining SPDTC.

The SPDTC partners with public defender leaders and offices in the South in its effort to build a community of top-notch public defenders immediately and to groom the next generation of public defender leaders in the region. The SPDTC offers its partner-offices the following resources and support:
